    Unhappy Eff UPS, any suggestions

    How to fix this?

Lug vise or expanding collet of some other sort?
I got nothing else. Don't know how the fuck they managed this with no damage to the box, (according to the recipient)
The box isn't damaged, but it looks like it may have been at the bottom of the pile with the head tube resting on the floor, or something wide, flat and heavy smacked the whole side of the box.
I didn't do the packing, but it was supposedly well packed.

I went through something like this recently. The initial claim will be denied by the local office that picks up your package for the first damage assessment. They don't want it hanging on them. It will come back to you. Get the direct number of the claims person assigned to you. Call them, send them pictures. Tell them the UPS agent on the shipper's end inspected the package and accepted the quality of the packing - I assume this was the case. It takes time, but my claim worked out eventually. Took probably 3 weeks.

Thanks, I fully expect to be told to pound sand initially, but hopefully it works out.
Hopefully getting things round again is my biggest concern.

Persistence is the key. Also google something like "UPS claims department direct number" and you won't have to wait on hold or go through their annoyingly polite automated teller thingy.

We just did one for a bike that got denied at first, but once I escalated it we got it resolved.

were the shipping TOS followed by the shipper, if not you are up against the shipper to replace / fix

UPS TOS dictates 2" of cushioning space between the object and the inside of the box

were there bungs in the head tube and seat tube ? was the rear triangle/ fork blocked ?

    How this was "fixed".

Stage 1 was the smallest muffler expander harbor freight sold. This made it mostly round.

Stage 2 was turning some 4130 down to fit inside the HT and a step up to fit inside the reamed HT.(lathe use #450897123)
Stage 2a involved filing flats in both steps to allow it to slip by the squish and on the ends to allow easy rotation. (this tool was then shipped to Texas to join the frame)

Stage 3 involved sending the fork to get touchup paint color matched.

Stage 4 involved the insertion and rotation of previouly created tool. It must have worked because the cups pressed in enough and the bike was assembled when I arrived.

Bike was presented Thursday night, and he seemed to like it. No attempt to fix the paint prior was made, but he has the touchup paint if he wants to use it. ("Hey by the way UPS put the first scratch in it for you.")

Only other glitch in the whole shooting match was that the LBS sold my buddy that was doing the building a tapered shoulder seatpost bolt rather than a square shouldered cap screw so it would not actually tighten the seatpost sufficiently. Subsequent attempts to tighten it before we discovered this left it stripped it out meaning a quick non-seated emergency re-enactment journey to a Wichita Falls LBS was necessary to try and get it removed. They succeeded though my heart was in my throat for much of the attempt.

No carbon paste was harmed in the attempt to make the seatpost stay where it was supposed to.

    End storytime.

Call and call again. Get names, phone #'s, extensions and what they said. Get the call elevated to someone that can actually do something. Write everything down. Keep your cool when dealing with them. Its their job to tell you that you are wrong you need to convince them otherwise.
