    Default Eating in Boulder

The wife is going to see Andy Pruitt tomorrow so we will be in Boulder overnight. Where's the good Mexican food?

If you're looking for lunch, but not Mexican, try Snarfs. I also like Pasta Jay's. Pizza, try Abo's.

Rio is pretty good, but you have to drink at least three (3) Margaritas to make the experience really fun....

For non-Mexican, Sean Madsen, Andy's biomechanist, recommended this place when I went to phase two of my fitting and it was good:http://www.sherpaascent.com/restaurant.htm

Really, really fun. I thought/heard they had a 2 marg limit. Warning: the margs at the Rio are HIGH octane!

Thanks for the link. I have been looking for a place like that. Some place where mexican food taste like food from Mexico. Rio is good but a little bland for Mexican food.

Trust Hampco and be doubly suspicious of anyone who says the Rio.

Actually there is a stunning lack of good Mexican food here. Best to go to Denver and find a place where no one speaks English. Those are the great places.

Make sure to have breakfast at Luciles or the Boulderado before you leave.

for all the years i've been visiting boulder, not a meal has been memorable - other than a few at my brother's house. maybe drop in on him and see if he'll whip up a plate of carnitas?

Rio is junk, except for their Margeritas. Those are damn good.

my favorite restaurant in Boulder is Brasserie Ten Ten. That place is top notch.

Agree completely. Born and raised in Boulder, and besides the occasional exception over the years, Boulder's always had a dearth of above-average (consensus) Mexican food.

Plus one-million on Lucile's. Holy cow, that's a good breakfast.

Thanks, ashwa, that reminder made me hungry again. Now I'm ready for my second breakfast (which I _don't_ need).

So this thread got be longing for the great mexican food of my youth, and when Hampco said La Gonzalez, it sent me on a downward spiral that could only be cured by ingesting a 1/4 pound of grease attached to some tacos.

Sorry to ruin your next trip to town Steve, but La Gonzalez is gone. The thing is you can still get tacos there as long as you want those to be lamb tacos served in pita bread tortillas with a side of cucumber sauce salsa. Yeh, a Mediterranean grocery replaced the Mexican Grocery.

Don't worry, we have a new heavy-weight champion in town. Some serious, authentic (and not like some place that claims to be authentic and then puts black beans on the menu like they actually eat those in Mexico - this is serious authentic right down to the 17% grease ratio on all taco fillings). El Rey, just a couple blocks from the old La Gonzalez on Valmont just west of 30th, gets my huge stamp of approval. I may never eat at home again...
