For sure, a lot of corporations do make charity work mandatory. I work in corporate advertising, and the company that I work for has us (mid-level to senior management) devote a minimum number of hours to volunteer work.

Despite the fact that it's mandated, it can still be rewarding. The volunteer work I did was the creation of an orphanage in North Korea. The group consisted of senior management from a variety of corporations, such as banks, law firms, architecture companies, investment firms, etc. So everyone was skilled at gathering donations, negotiation, communication, etc.
