We're in Brisbane. The fires are South of us and the big floods are North of us. Although, when I was riding my bike home from the train and smelled wood smoke I did ask Dazza what our fire plan was. Bush fires are evidently a common thing here.
It's awful
it is terrible
The death toll is rising
This is our biggest, fastest and most explosive fires ever.
Mary Ann and I are 1000 kms away in Brisbane, and all is just like any normal hot summer day here
Up north of us, in the real tropics, the monsoon this year has been big after two cyclones turned into rain depressions and flooded half of Queensland.
This is a normal event but this year is bigger than most.
Bottom end burns
Top end floods
We are in the middle.
Mary Ann and I thank every one for their considerations.
Cheers Dazza
PS. New Aussie frame builder Ewen Gellie called me yesterday. He lives in Victoria and has had the fires close by, but so far he is OK, but it is not over yet.
The loss of life and property really is horrific down here. There are still 8 separate fire fronts listed as out-of-control. Hundreds dead, thousands homeless. Scary.
People I work with have lost homes and loved ones. There are at least 21 dead and over 70 homes lost within 15km of my town.
Here are some pics from Saturday when the ash blew in from some of the fires. It should have been bright daylight.

over 170 dead
more then 200 expected
the pics are just shocking
Please keep safe down there
I live near forests
makes me and Mary Ann think about things here in a different light.
All the best from Dazza and MaryAnn
Yeah, just gut wrenching what has happened in Victoria. We had the same winds in Sydney that day and you just KNEW that if there was a fire it would be very dangerous. Just horrible and think we're all numb and can't quite fathom what has happened.
