Exactly. The original question was whether customers were asking us for disks now that the pros can use them even though the rest of us always could. The simple answer is no, my customers who want a cyclocross bike are not asking for disks for any number of reasons.

Oh, to answer your question about riders on steel bike on the WC, JP was the last guy on his Hot Tubes made bikes branded as Cervelos the year before he got his Sunweb contract.

my guess is 70% carbon, 30% alu, 0% steel. Not because they are inferior or superior, but only because that's what the sponsors provide.

For muddy, icy, snowy courses they make a lot of sense, saves rim wear in practice wheels & I like the way they control the wheel much better than rim brakes on ice.

So, for cold days discs are nice, but, I like how forks respond better with a front rim-brake when it's not icy so use two forks to flip types, makes sense for most racers ...

While steel isn't being used much, watching worlds over-n-over the bikes generally had tiny head-tubes so most riders had them slung across the back, very inefficient and unavoidable, there's no room for a shoulder, so, the frames aren't being designed for the sport, nobody's doing anything functional at the top level due to the money.

I'm working on functional frame designs in steel, the top-tube makes the shoulder with room for the elbow when lifting from the down-tube and bent to accept the shoulder much nearer to the head-tube so easy to keep upright posture.

NEVER. It's already being done and they are happy to pay $60/ticket to do it. It's called the NFL.

    that's it is it?

'cross aint gettin' it's own torque settings.

i suggest it gets hydra brake housing with olives that are incompatible with anything else ever produced on this planet.
then i want discs that come in packages that have at least 3 layers of wrapping, plastered with 2 different bar-code systems, limited information on compatibility on outer layer, and an independent number system to indicate "quality" level, like on table tennis balls, but with numbers instead of stars. this also needs to be supplemented with names.

then i want a million brochures printed on think glossy paper, sent in huge boxes to my shop.

i want a micro-site. i want my in-box bombarded with pdf's, i want stickers, i want marketing material, i want display stands, i want product launches. i want power-point presentations.

    i want favourable product reviews.

I KNOW WHY THE KLF BURNT A MILLION QUID.

For actual race frames, discs are good for icy & slippery, or slimy mud where you don't track very well, nice wheel control, seems an ok weight trade-off then.

From watching worlds over-n-over, the head-tubes are too skimpy to get your shoulder forward so most riders had their bikes draped across the back and ran bent over ...

My designs have bent tubes to allow getting the tt to the shoulder with your hand on the dt, the elbow clears the frame & it goes up in one motion, left hand still on the drop, been riding the first prototype since March.

Really? You're losing touch with the masses
A lot of people haven't bought/built disc bikes because of UCI rules, which had absolutely no impact on them.

You know Shimano's gotta be stuffing a master cylinder into a [hollow] Di2 lever as we speak...

the rules had no impact on them except that the rules stifled development of ultra cool, lightweight discs.
which you will now see in a matter of months.

check out hufnagels stevens that i saw pictured somewhere.
    wont go away.

2 yrs= top riders all using disc...

just looked through this thread and thought of Wittgenstein's motto to the Philosophical Investigations:

"It is in the nature of progress that it looks much greater than it is."
