    Default Cavendish = lame?

I'm sorry but calling it quits just so you can go home and recover the next event is lame IMO. I'd like to see his wins pulled.

How about a rule saying that if you choose to leave for any reason other than injury or personal tragedy that their results are stricken and awards not rewarded.

    Too harsh?

He does what he is paid to do. His job is done. There is a rule that says he can't race somewhere else until the giro is over.

    Deli Belly
    tooth infection
    Swine flu
there are plenty of excuses to pull the pin in a tour

the coporate heads paying the $ got what they wanted
and they want more in July
The Giro got what it wanted, the best dasher in their race

Not cool, but the public do not care
just like they do not care about the riders tackling up for the grand tours.
The majority of the punters watching the circus do not care
and look at the comments about the race here

more concerned about the wheels they use
rather than then the screwed up profession it is
"OK, got sprung, I will do my three month ban
and next time organise a better tackle program"

Makes me wonder some times if I should work the worlds later this year

BS. When I said the same thing last summer about Cav bailing on the TDF, you, along with others here, gave me a lecture about not understanding the sport and told me to go watch the horse video.

Is it a joke, or is he just doing what is in his best interest to preserve his career/legs? Or, did he complete his job for his sponsors and finishing the race is secondary to that? Or, is he just a clown puncher that can't finish what he starts?

his job is to win stages, not crawl over the mountain in the laughing group. he could finish if he had too.

his team and spomsors want to him win more stages in July. a little recovery now is the best prep for doing so.

it's too bad that the gc cats don't have the equivalent to a time cut
that the sprinters do on those long alpine stages. it's a lot easier to
sit in with mark and company than it is to follow the breaks up and
down the hills. it's opinion day. paypal me a nickel, get an opinion.

i totally hear what cav's doing....i always pull out of the fast paced local weekend "training" ride/race once the big guys bring on the hurt. i'm not getting dropped, i'm simply resting up for the next week's ride....:D

he's tired and he wants to go to bed.

    he's like me.

I think it's nancyboy not to hang in and keep racing. I think any dink lucky enough to get to paticipate in such a race should pedal til he collapses, out of respect.

The guy's fast but something about him rubs me the wrong way. Ah well doesn't really matter now does it, in the grand scheme of things.

I guess a win is a win, but I'd take one mountain top or solo break win over 20 bunch sprint wins.

Cav certainly didn't set the precedent.

Awww poor Cav, he's a young cat and no need to burn him out this early in his career (even 7 time TDF winner Lance pulled out of Grand Tours early on). Cav has accomplished enough, the G.C. glory really goes to the final winner anyways, the individual stage wins are merely stats in the end......

    It's an old argument.

I think part of the problem is Cav makes it look easy - it ain't easy.

It's his job to win stages.

The prestige of winning a stage race has prestige because they are in it every day,
and it's way harder than just riding for an individual result. (or two or three)

Stage wins are great, but they have much less weight than a GC win, or even a podium,
the reason why should be understood. I see no reason to confuse the two.
