    Default Friday PicFest No.71

Brainstorming is the hardest part for me. It really helps me appreciate what an artist goes through staring at a blank canvas.

    Default Shop improvements

While I had a week of unfortunate timing from a drop out being out of stock (two bikes in a row and they both need the same drop outs). I made some shop improvements.

First is a new unicrown fork mitering fixture:

Next is a new small diameter tube bender that needed major improvements. It is for small diameter (3/8") tubing:

Some more time with the MIG welder and made a 2nd pedestal for my BB punch press (the other pedestal was the bender pedestal):

Did some frame work as well. MTB fork for an existing customer:

Picked up last Saturday (zero stack headtube and pressfit 30 BB shell):

    Thanks for looking.

This is #3. I've made huge progress with a few things. My miters were tight before, just as tight as these. But now I have developed a feel that lets me get them done in half the time. I'm sure you hand file guys know what I'm talking about:

I'm Argon purging now just because. I know I don't need to, but I can't see how it hurts anything and it sure makes the inside of the tubes look better. Also, my heat control is getting better than before for those that have been following my progress. I'm actually proud of these welds. No powder coat on this one, its' going to wet paint. Well, unless I screw something up ;) Oh, also, shout out to EDOZ! Eric, see those little micro tacks on there? 15PPS. That is the way to tack! You can almost touch the area immediately adjacent to the tack. I'm sold on that. Thanks!

SteveG, this is for you man. Keep in mind, this is my 2nd fillet w/ brass ever. The stuff I'm learning with silver brazing on the small bits AND what I'm learning with TIG is just carrying over. I ran this exactly like I would TIG. I got it hot, stuck my rod in the root, had the torch pointed where I wanted to go, and jammed in the rod, moving the torch as needed to get a nice smooth fillet. Sleeve slides on the ST still, probably doesn't even need to be reamed, but I'll do that just to make sure it's round anyway.

Anyway, here's one for the reenactors out there- getting prepped/primered tonight and a couple coats of Union blue tomorrow, then she'll be ready for Shiloh!

Probably pretty lame to just post a link again, but too excited to get out the door to go to a party at another local metal fabricators shop and geek out over beers (there might even be girls there).

All the best from the morgue here at Budd Bikes. I Like the drawings, love looking at old hardware catalogs with these in lieu of a photo, they seem to make it easier to take in the details.
