i've got a nobilette built GT road frame. i thought it was built by yamaguchi when i got it off the serotta forums. probably paid a little too much but the dimensions are what i need for a good fit and i figured i wouldn't get anything better for the price.
i got it and it didn't ride that great. kinda squirrely out of the saddle. i suspected the carbon fork on it.
after i confirmed the fit was pretty good i had nobilette build another fork. i forget what the exact numbers were but the headtube was 7mm lower and front center was alot shorter too after getting the correct fork on it.

i'll get a picture of it up here soon.

ok, not a great pic but you get the idea.

from what i understand, nobilette builds the custom frames for rivendell and also builds for Rene Herse.

Sounds like you did everything right: You suspected the fork, which was likely not designed for the frame, and you went to the source to get it corrected. Since Mark was familiar with the frames, he was already speaking your language and knew what to do to make the bike handle properly. You spent your money wisely.

I love reading stories like this!

I got one on the way. He has been great to deal with and a real talented builder. I went for his a model in lugs. The bike is currently 95% Finished. I just can't decided how to paint it.

I used to see Nobilettes at Cycle Cellar (I think) in Ann Arbor, back when he lived there. Have always wanted one, too.

It's cool that he did those GT bikes, they're a longtime favorite of mine. Did he build the Shaklee bikes, too?

Just putting it out there that I'll always be looking for a 56-57 in the national team bike.

I showed this picture to Mr Nobilette today at the San Diego bike show and he showed me the finished product in his booth. You're getting a show bike.
    I heart brown bikes.

Mark just built a bike for me: sent him a De Rosa track bike I bought in '83, and had him replicate the geometry using newer tubeset and a drilled fork. I'll post photos when I've finished building it. Perfect bike. Waiting for correct brake levers: Modolo 919's. Then I will be finished.

I got this from Mr. Mansell a few weeks ago and finally collected all the parts and found time to build it this weekend. Nice way to finish off 2011. It rides fantastic! Looks great too...what do you think?

    Gorgeous.

I wish I could have afforded this frameset at the time.

As pretty as they come, I'd say.

Hope you enjoy her, as she looks quite special.

Please tell us about the build when you get a chance.

    All the usual suspects:

    DuraAce 7900
    CK headset
    3T alloy stem
3T Ergonova alloy bars (if you like flat top bars you'll like em if not you won't)
Fizik Cyrano seatpost (1st one, the least fiddling I've had to do to adjust a seat in a long time...LIKE)
    Aliante saddle
    Alchemy ELF / ORC hubs
    HED C2 tubular rims
    Challenge 27mm Roubiax tires
