years ago (mid-80's and thereabouts, in south orange county, calif.) there was an older guy who used to ride absolutely everywhere, including the big then-popular mexican rides (tecate-ensenada, that sort of thing). i'd often see him on the road along the so. cal coast. he was, at the time, around 80 ("or so") and known by many. wonderful guy. seemingly each weekend i'd see him stopped at a popular local bakery in laguna beach after his ride, and oftentimes chat him up. i think his name was mickey? not sure. anyway, he rode a blue gios, and he loved it. always talked about it.

and that's how i fondly remember both gios and great old guys who ride bikes.

thanks for bringing back the memories.

There is a guy that I see at the starts of the brevet series I ride that has an immaculate Gios. It always makes me jealous. Then he rides away.

Gorgeous bikes RC30, thanks for posting.

I think Bicycle Guide did an article about the team Kelme Gios Compact Pro that I remember reading over and over and over and over.

How do you like that Brooks saddle? I want to try one and can't decide between that and a swift.

In a world of cookie cutter, soulless, me-too bikes, these have real class. Well done!

I bought this bike about 25 years ago when I was in college. After 20 years of ownership I sold it on EBAY. I emptied my basement of this Gios, and a Moser, a Motorola Merckx MX Leader, a 3Rensho, several Schwinn Paramounts, a Ryghin, a Steelman and several more only to immediately regret the sales. So I'm on Ebay last Nov/Dec and I type in Gios only to find my old frame on auction. It's back home and it got some new old Campy bits to make it feel loved again. I'm still looking for those other bikes.

Here is mine...It was my first "real" bicycle. I still take it out every now and then for old times sake. Still feels pretty "modern" except for the drive train of course.

I still recall the Gios Torino that I tried to buy from Pete Desalvo at International Pro Bike Shop in Bellbrook, OH.

I couldn't swing it financially, but was entranced by the Cobalto brakes. Like a long lost love, I have never forgotten it. I hear it's siren song and wonder where it is now.

Don't feel bad for me, though. I had a 1976 Masi Gran Criterium at the time! (Still do)

I am a lurker here, mainly for purposes of drooling over Hampsten and Richard Sachs frames. But noticed the Gios thread and thought I would add mine. It isn't a show piece by any stretch. More of a daily driver. Repainted by the previous owner, but I am pretty sure it is a Super Record frame. It has a coin-topped fork, but the Gios coins were replacedbwith actual nickels (1914 & 1924 Buffalo nickels at that.) The bottom bracket has both Gios and 61 (frame size is 61 c-t with a 57 TT c-c.) Campagnolo dropouts with drilled holes and cork stopper in the bottom of the fork's steerer tube. The headset is a great old Galli roller-bearing headset, but otherwise (in its current iteration) the parts are Campagnolo Centaur and Veloce I've picked up here and there. It works and I love riding it.
