Thread: Calfee

  1. Calfee

Just in from a refinish with clearcoat. New Vigors, bar/stem and post. I still love this bike. In many ways the refinish is more satisfying to me than going new. I know everyone doesn't love Calfees but I still do. Gussets serve in place of oversized tubes. To me it still looks like a bike.

Oh, and the ride is sure and balanced and lively. Works for me.

  2. Dig it.

Rolf hoops are still some of my favorite, Trek or not.

And I dig the black, non-skeleton Record brakes, too.

    Home run.

Mom: He was very sickly until he started riding around on that bicycle.

Dad: Yeah... well... now his body's fine, but his mind is gone.

  3. Looks fantastic to me! Nice job.

My friend has a tetra pro and I had one at a point as well. One of those 'shouldn't' have sold bikes. What calfee lacks is marketing. They've let themselves become out of sight / out of mind ...

  5. Looks really nice! Mine ironically, is stark white; too bad we can't get them together for a pic.. I like mine a lot; IMHO one of the better deals out there considering what you get.

First time I saw Calfee's gussets I almost puked...but I have since grown to be quite fond of them.

To me they make for a good looking front triangle. i don't notice them as much in the rear triangle. but i'd imagine that there's some function to them and the particular tubes selected that smarter more informed people here can debate. if they help it ride the way it goes down the road, then i'm a fan. it feels great from the saddle, that's for sure.

I'm surprised nobody has posted any Calfee bamboo bikes. Here's my 26" hardtail:

Very cool bamboo. How does it feel onthe trail compared to a metal bike?

  15. Re: Calfee

I've had a lot of carbon bikes in the past and am currently on a metal kick. But the one carbon frame that keeps calling my name is a Calfee D-fly or Tetra with a nude carbon finish. I will definitely get one someday.

My previous bike was a Santa Cruz superlight (aluminum) full suspension, and the Calfee is definitely more comfortable despite the fact it is a hardtail. It is also lighter at 24lbs. There is just enough compliance in the frame to make it smooth out some of the bumps on the trail.
