    Default Budd Bike Works

Expecting this and 5 others back from paint today. BBW #22 here would have a 70cm seat tube if I'd used a level Top Tube, this is for an aggressive rider with really long legs who has never gotten a road bike to fit till now even with custom frames & professional fittings. I let him ride it raw to make sure I wouldn't have to change anything and waste the paint job.

I did my first polishing of stainless for this one on the drop outs and caps, lots of time on the buffing wheel got it to a mirror shine.

Hope to have more pictures soon.

    Default Semi Aero Road Sprinter

I really had wished this one were closer to my size when the time came to test ride this bike. By all reports from 5'5'' females it is fast.

Default Budd Bike Works Trail Bike

Is posting pictures of my frames pre-paint a mistake? Probably
Can I stop myself? Apparently not.

This is my personal trail bike made specifically for the extremely technical and rocky terrain of New England with wide tire clearance and extremely short chainstays.
Eccentric Bottom Bracket will allow use as a single speed or fixed gear and the front end geometry is calculated to give good off road handling with either a long travel suspension fork and 26" front wheel or a non-suspension corrected rigid 29'er fork.

Still haven't found anything I can rely on like those old Deore XT thumb shifters.

Default Not a Bike at all

I never cared for the logo I've been using since '06 and I finally convinced my graphic designer brother to whip up a file from some pencil sketches I did. I can't wait to get it on my bikes and hats and t-shirts and coffee mugs. Let the megalomania Begin. My housemate razzed me good when he said I was like a 12 year old girl doodling my name constantly while I was sketching up ideas.

Kudos. Most of the large bikes I've seen look like he!! You did a good job visually balancing this design. Way to go. I'd love to see the rider on this bike.

How is the chain clearance on the drive side CS/SS truss? I didn't think it was possible with the chain set to 11.

If I'd posted a closer view of the seatstay-chainstay truss you'd see that it comes in off center on the chainstay leaving plenty of room for chain clearance. This bike is for a rider with a long history of tearing bike frames to shreds and I didn't like the thought of those dropouts cantilevered out there without some extra reinforcement.

    Thanks for looking.

Thanks for the compliment, the bike was the result of a lot of collaboration between myself and the customer who happens to be a regular riding partner (a great guy to draft on the road with his seat coming well above my shoulders when on the hoods).

The bigger challenge than the visual balance, which was helped a lot by using an MTB length fork rather than a 20" head tube, was getting the bike to handle properly for someone with such a high center of gravity and a relatively short reach. At only 6'5" with a 38" inseam standard road geometry puts the front wheel too far beneath him and the other customs he has had have all been really squirrely. Arriving at the desired trail by slacking out the head angle and raking the fork instead gave a longer wheel base that lets him ride with a lot more confidence. I'm hoping to get him out for his first Cyclo Cross Race this year.

The bike isn't perfect but the customer loves it and the brown powder coat and polished stainless bits are definitely deserving of some new pics as soon as I get my hands on a camera.

    A Great Fall To All,
    Best Regards,

Default New CX frame Inches of Welding from Completion

I'm pretty happy with the way this one turned out after initial frustration getting the flared and subtly S-bent chain stays to co-operate. Went for dent resistance over light weight on the front triangle as it will be ridden by a pretty abusive rider who I know is capable of bunny hopping barriers and is foolhardy enough to go for it even if he isn't sure himself. Still clocks in at 3.7lbs on the uncalibrated fish scale.
Photos at the Link to the Blog for now, no time for attachments at the moment.

Working on updating the new flickr account and need to get working on some bikes for the first time this year.

Sorry for the link fest, I couldn't seem to get anything to post properly as an attachment today.

    BBW #26 & #27

Process pics of BBWs #26 & #27 are up on this FlickR set.
These two seem to be taking forever to get done.

Lots of new work done by my brother on the website recently. No nahbs plans but to try to make it to be in the audience for this broke joke.

I've never wanted for anything but thumb shifters on my MTB and made the prototype of this mount to bring the same simplicity to my cyclocross and road rigs.

A funny (to me) write up about it and tribute to Suntour's old Command Shifter is here

I ought to be building up the wheels for this one right now. I really wish Michellin would bring back the green rubber, I love obnoxious colored tires.
