For the MTB builders out there... any leads on full suspension rear ends that could be incorporated into a steel main triangle? I'm going to a second trans rockies challenge in 2011 and want to ride something I built this time. I've done 6 so far (5 road, 2 track) but not done a MTB.

I rode a Santa Cruz blur previously and appreciated the cush on 100k days off road. I'm not tough enough to go fully rigid on long days like that. Just was looking for any leads / opinions (frame building ones) on things people might have tried either successfully or not incorporating suspension whether pre-purchased or hand made.

Not looking for long travel stuff of course.

Ventana is the obvious answer, but Turner and Maverick will also sell rear ends but have their various terms and conditions. Ventana also sells the 'connectors' in steel, so that's probably your easiest bet.

True Fabrications made a 29er w/ a pre-made squish rear end. I think Waltworks has one on his blog as we speak as well. Probably the easiest way to go.

You could also just buy and older Specialized FSR and rob the rear end. Relatively inexpensive, good design (if you like Horst-link), and durable.

i have a turner i'm "saving" for just such purposes. it's a '99 "o2"model w/ 3.1" travel. xc-longissimo perfect.

can't sell it--so wtf, re-purpose it. fit it to me and my purposes.

like later, when i get softer.
