    Default Tube Storage?

I'm thinking of making a new tube storage rack/system. I was wondering what other people were doing and was hoping I might get some hot tips and maybe some pictures.

More than likely I'll make it out of wood. I can commit about 12 square feet of floor space to it and it can be as tall as I can reach, about 7'.

    Thanks in advance.

i have always stored horizontally by type, and with red bricks as dividers atmo.
at the new place, one of the benches has a stash beneath. there's a hole there
for 40 more sets due to arrive in a week or three -

How many tubes do you need to store? What types/shapes; are the tubes you use just cut lengths of tube or are they bicycle specific cut to lenght? Would you have various lengths of the same diameter of tube? How often would you access the tube rack?

pretty much what Richard has but with wood dividers/re-inforcements. do not underestimate the weight, my tube rack tore itself off the wall...... - Garro.

Heres my setup, Its a repurposed blueprint cabinet I scored off of craigslist, It's more than deep enough to store 750mm niner tubes, there were more and I wish I had acted sooner. I know this would probally be too small for you but the thing I wanted to point out was that it's nice to be able to close it to keep the tubes sort of clean. My shop is "Multi-purpose' and sometimes the heavy fab stuff I do puts a lot of grinding and dirt into the environment. I know you work in multiple materials so you will possibly need 2 or 3 times the cubbie holes. If I were to build a bigger storage system I would probally use an upright metal cabinet (like an old flammable storage unit) as the front so as to utilize the doors and build the back and sides around it as well as the dividers inside out of nice plywood.

My setup is more or less like Richard or Steve but with wooden dividers separating tubes by type, when I'm over this pneumonia I'll go out to the shop and take a pic.

You are all so lucky to be able to store tubes like that
    In my climate
tubes have to be stored in plastic bags in boxes
    or in drawers
or they are rusty in a few weeks
unless there is 5mm of grease on them

I'm with you on that Dazza. Mine go in individual bags (pairs for stays) with silica gel packets.

pardon me, but i'm just curious if any supplier besides h/j ships the tubes out in plastic baggies.

blueprint cab--beautimus. i saw the absolute perfect sized ss tub for a dunk tank the other day in the scrapyard, but didn't have the cash to grab it then...i'll go back tomorrow. repurposing is a purpose.

That cabinet is super cool. Way to small but a bunch of them would be nice.

Dazza fortunately in the Rocky Mountains we have hardly any humidity and I can leave tubes out almost indefinitely with no corrosion.

It looks like I may just make a wood matrix and fill it up. I currently store all my tubes in boxes but would like to have more visibility so I can see what my stocking levels are with out pulling out boxes and counting.
