Probably rolling out around 7:30 or 8:00 in the morning. Route is 98% asphalt and can be re-routed to avoid the gravel on Kings Highway you don't want to do any gravel. I plan on riding my Colnago with 22mm tubulars.

It's a tough route - ~63 miles with well in excess of 100 ft/mile ascent, so I'm aiming for 4 hours, including a quick pit stop in Shelburne falls. It includes Bardwell's Ferry Bridge, which any good Western Mass bike ride really should.

The Lakeview Loop was recently trashed during an XTERRA event held in the pouring down rain. The trail was so badly damaged that the park closed the trail until it can be repaired. Original estimates put the repair effort at approximately 400 man hours, however, a professional trail builder recently checked out the trail and estimated closer to 800-1,000 hours. Virtually every foot of the seven mile loop needs work.

SORBA-CSRA is working with the park to create new trail use policies to prevent this from happening again, and is hosting a series of work parties to repair the trail. The first one will be on June 1st, National Trails Day. There will be a cookout afterwards, and lots of really great prizes will be awarded to the volunteers.

One of those prizes: Southern Wheelworks is partnering with Industry Nine to give one lucky volunteer a pair of custom MTB wheels built around I9's new Torch Classic hubs, valued at approx. $900. These will be fully custom, with the best rims, spokes, etc choosen to fit whoever wins. The winner is limited to alloy rims, but can upgrade to carbon if they can pay the price difference. To be eligible for the wheels, and some of the other top prizes, you must attend more than one work party.

A New 50 Mile Gravel Grinder featuring 15 miles of unpaved roads on a rolling and twisting course through the Foothills of Wilkesboro, starting and finishing at the Wilkes Raceway Park dragstrip! The course does include one epic unpaved climb through Joe Town into the Leatherwood Mountain Resort, and possibly even a dismounted stream crossing, but this is still a road ride, not a monster- or ultra-cross event.
