The frame is a Velo-Orange Polyvalent, with 650b wheels and Hetres. The most recent mods are the Berthoud mudguards... This bike is just so much fun.

The frame is a Velo-Orange Polyvalent, with 650b wheels and Hetres. The most recent mods are the Berthoud mudguards and a Berthoud saddle, courtesy of Peter White. Component-wise there is nothing exotic here; this is meant to be a dirt-road bomber/commuter/do-everything bike. The front rack is a Nitto with a small Sackville trunksack, it has a Shimano front generator hub powering a Luxos headlight and taillight. The bars are used North Road-style, and I wrapped the grips with several layers of leather and tied them off with shellacked twine; same with the chainstay protector.

Between the deep olive-green frame and the tones ofbrown - the bag, grips, tires, etc. - the bike has a very utilitarian, retro/military vibe. And with the big cushy Hetres and the gear range going ultra-low, it will go damn near anywhere, hence the nickname. The Jeep. It's not light. It's not fast. But it's a whole lotta fun.

Lots of drop and no racks. Shaved tubeless Grand Bois Hetre (although given Fred's experience, I might consider tubes)

This is also the first bike where I've paid attention to the paint beyond suggesting a general color. This is what I ended up with:

Simply awesome. It amazes me whenever I ride it. Smooth, but fast. On descents, the best way to describe it is effortless.... Just lean one way or the other and it carves through the corners. Working with Max was fantastic. He nailed the fit and was very communicative.
