man, I probably have $500 worth of PPG's old DBU line of 2-part basecoat-clearcoat system paints. So I mix it up with the DRR reducer and it clots up! PPG has wiothdrawn DBU and replaced it with DBC which doesn't take a catalyst, you just thin it with DT. Are you with me on this?

So I had a repaint in this week, the client wanted gunmetal metallic, which I had in DBU. I gave a quote that was reasonable unless I had to buy a new can of paint. Thank god for the internet:

Attn paint gurus: PPG DBU problem - THE H.A.M.B.

So I did what came naturally, mixed the DBU with DT and shot it. Came out pretty nice, too. I plan to give the job a light clearcoat as per the forum advice, then the decals and then a couple good coats of clear5.

I'm interested in why some builders use gussets or reenforcing plates underneath the DT, and sometimes on the top of the TT as well. I understand that it essentially makes wall thicker in the area that is high stress against the HT, but I'm curious to know about the arguments for or against. Seen by and large on MTB and CX machines, I see builders such as Hunter and Soulcraft use them, while it seems the majority of builders do not.

Not really sure of what actually asking, exposing or whatevering this post is about, kind of a deformed abstraction of isolated thoughts on the "branding" related post and some deviations on sometimed felt worms.

Boring enough already. So, having in mind the already spoked approach to "branding" and how the person behind a brand defines the brand in itself, here very randomized questions:
-How dependant are one from the other? or how independent can they become?
- Person behind evolves in many different possible ways, and sometimes situations can even face this person at an opposite place to the person from the very day before in drastic-ish change. Will this mean a drastic change intself on the brand? Can the brand survive with its own personality or will definetly be defeated by the "sould" behind?
- Same way a person evolves and have a personality and approach, might it happen to the brand in itself go then the other way around being the brand (what the brand has become) the one deciding on the person behind? How much power does IT have over HIM/HER?
-Does the person behind have some kind of responsability or debts to such intangible thing as the brand?
-Does the brand have total loyalty to the person behind even if jumping from the roof?

I can see the obvious answers to such stupid questions, again, not really sure what is the question here, probably none, just opening a door and see what's out there.

I know... I know... sorry

Ok, I've got a form, and have tried on a few scrap chain stays because they seem pretty similar to fork blades. I'm finding that they kinda... de-ovalize near the bend. Like, the section that's bent is wider and has a more circular cross section than the rest. Otherwise, the blades are smooth.

Is this unsafe? Is this just because I'm maybe not as careful getting the blade rotated 100% straight on practice stuff? Any ideas?

Greetings all. I'm new to the forum, and working on my first frame. As my design develops, I am finding that the angles of available lugs don't always match up with what one wants to build. How many degrees of wiggle room are there in a lug before one has to start cutting, brazing and modifying the lug to a new angle.

After reading and checking out some framebuilders websites, I'm wondering how firm a framebuilder is that his name, or chosen name, appears on the frame? I don't doubt there are many fine framebuilders, but I don't want a frame that says Odd Job or Dubble Trubble on it, no matter how outstanding it is.

We all know how many people will buy a set of wheels because they have that cool logo which grabs their attention, sometimes even before they know what components the wheel has. How many people have avoided or walked away from a frame because they couldn't stand to see some weird or cartoony name on it? Or some odd font?

Are there builders that will let you put what you want on the frame? Or change the look of their logo to suit the person buying it? Or let you put your last name, or something that has special meaning? Is that not the true definition of a custom frame?

These are some adapters I had Alex Meade make up so I could mount a mid BB shell in my HJ Universal jig. They have a side benefit in they keep the shell from warming too much when I weld. I use OA welding on my BMX bikes and that really throws a lot of heat. They fit perfectly first time out.

FWIW you **can** use the HJ cones to set up a Mid shell, just barely, but you cannot reach the setscrew that holds them in place, so it is a little iffy.

Good morning guys, I was wondering if you could shed some light or at least point me in the right direction for reading material. I'm trying to wrap my head around how frame builders arrive to the geometry they use for a customer. When I follow links to most of your websites, you all seem to have a form asking the customer to provide you with their basic body measurements as well as their current bike setup. My goal here is to build a bike for my brother (birthday is coming up), but I'd like to know how to measure him correctly. Here is an example where I'm a bit confused:

My friend and I are the same height, he has slightly longer legs...around 1.5" taller inseam. He has always ridden 58's, I typically ride 56's. When I hop on his bike, it is freaking HUGE on me and on my bike very small on him. When I compare some of the geometries of his bike versus mine, there is almost no difference.

I guess my question is, what is your process and what considerations do you keep in mind for sizing a frame to a customer? I'm interested to see how alike or different everyone's process is. Thanks!
